Monogram Combinations

Unique Monograms combining multiple styles.

Monogram Styles Used:

Monogram: A

For this single initial monogram for someone with the initial A we cobbled together bits and pieces from several monogram styles. All of them have a simple modern geometric sensibility.

We started with the embellishments. We wanted to have a satin stitch circle as an outline, which comes from the Circle 1 XL Monogram Set. Next, the parallel satin stitch bars from the Circle 2 XL Monogram Set. For this monogram we used two copies of each set of bars, and rotated and merged them so that all four quadrants were included.

This left an open area - both vertical and horizontal - in a central cross. To fill the horizontal sections we added three rings from the Baroque 1 XL Monogram Set (with some size adjustments in our software).

With these elements in place we went looking through the full product catalog for a vertical style that shared the same basic elements as the rest. After several false starts the letter A from Arts & Crafts 7 seemed to fit the bill - except that it has a flower element and another satin stitch angle that wouldn't work for this situation - so we deleted those parts. The remaining plain letter needed to be made a little narrower, and stretched vertically, to be balanced and fill the available space.

We chose light colors for the decorative elements, with bolder colors for the outer ring and the initial in the center.

The overall size is 7"(177mm) tall by 7"(177mm) wide.

How we made these monograms

Embroidery software programs make it easy to delete elements, copy and paste elements from other designs, resize different aspects, and merge elements together into one new design. Each program is a bit different in how the Edit functions are managed. Once you have learned to use yours, creating new monograms from other monogram parts is creative and fun. Experiment with different arrangements and colors.
