Another monogram classic, this one from the 1950s. Merge designs to create any combination of two letters, then frame them with the corners to complete the Diamond shape. The letters and corners are elegant satin stitches with ample underlay to produce a full appearance. Great on towels, linens, scarves, etc.

This is another French monogram style, this time from 1923. It has delicate satin stitch details, and would look great on linens, handkerchiefs, etc. The left side letters (A-Z) are one color. The right side letters (A-Z) are four colors - each letter includes a three color flower accent. This style would look equally elegant if sewn tone-on-tone, all one color. The letters are designed to be merged in left and right versions to create a diamond from the letters that you choose.

This monogram style is from the 1930s. The background is an overlapping mesh, surrounded by a satin stitch border with a bean stitch highlight. The satin stitch monogram letter is flanked by two circular embellishments. The letters are digitized for applique, so a contrasting colored fabric can be laid under the mesh, or the design can be sewn as cutwork utilizing water-soluble stabilizer. Although digitized with 5 colors, this looks wonderfully subtle if sewn all in white.

In the 1930s and 40s, department stores like Woolworths sold iron-on transfer patterns for a wide variety or subject matter, including monogramming. The patterns could be transferred to fabric with a hot iron, and the pattern then used for hand embroidery. This style is based on one of those patterns. In addition to creating a three-letter diamond monogram, the smaller left and right flanking letters can be used together to create a two-letter diamond shape.

This style is featured in "Simply Napkins" by Gail Brown and Mary Mulari, Krause Publications, 2003.

A three-letter diamond monogram is one of the all-time classic styles. This one is based on a vintage 1940s iron-on transfer pattern - sold in department stores for 15 cents. The appropriate left, middle, and right initials are combined within your embroidery software program, along with four corner brackets, to create your own timeless monogram.

The artwork for this single-letter monogram design came from an iron-on transfer pattern from the 1930s. The upright initials are done in satin stitch. The two-color bracket has simulated handwork seeding stitch accents framed with satin stitch outlines, and the overall design is finished off with flanking French knots. The letters can be used alone by stopping after the letter is sewn.

This two-color monogram style is a nicely formal presentation of a diamond shape. The artwork is from the 1930s, and each satin stitch letter is framed with satin stitch border sections to complete the diamond shape. We have digitized this style in two colors to allow you to give a bit of extra emphasis to the letter, but traditionally this would have been embroidered in one color - white-on- white - on fine linens, napkins, etc. To produce a single color version just use the same thread color for letters and frames.

This striking single letter monogram consists of satin stitch letters with a thin satin stitch border. The letters are surrounded by a thin geometric diamond shape with partial circles at the corners, and finished off with four triangular Greek keys. This delicate style also looks striking white-on-white.
