Monogram: G

This project is a large monogram - initial G - for a pillow. The theme is historic/medieval.

We started with the G from our Gothic 7 XL Monogram Set, which is distinctive and graceful. Some extra decoration or embellishment is needed to make this a more complete design.

For making border elements the letter I is typically fairly neutral and vertical - so it lends itself to being treated more abstractly.

We started with one copy of the I from the Gothic Monogram Set 8 - a two-color design with two open eyelet shapes breaking through the center of the letter, and a finial shape on each end. We rotated the letter 90 degrees, then arranged additional copies on each side to make a double motif.

The overall size is 5 3/4" (139 mm) tall by 12 1/4" (312 mm) wide.

How we made these monograms

Embroidery software programs make it easy to delete elements, copy and paste elements from other designs, resize different aspects, and merge elements together into one new design. Each program is a bit different in how the Edit functions are managed. Once you have learned to use yours, creating new monograms from other monogram parts is creative and fun. Experiment with different arrangements and colors.
