Monogram: CSZ

In the English written language, letters of the alphabet have over time become highly recognizable images with a specific "meaning" for each letter. An English speaker can easily understand how a letter might be much less specific and much more abstract just by looking at written text in a non-western language.

For this project we thought it would be fun to try to think more abstractly and just make an interesting design out of several of the letters from the Moderne 12 XL Monogram Set. Several years ago in a past Combinations entry we made a "universal monogram" - something that doesn't immediately suggest a traditional monogram. For this we wanted something even a bit more abstract.

We chose three letters - C, S, and Z - then used our software program to rotate the letters randomly, moving them around here and there, until we liked the result. What is it? Maybe a flower? Maybe just random energy expressed. For someone who has these three initials this is a secret monogram that nobody else will recognize.

How we made these monograms

Embroidery software programs make it easy to delete elements, copy and paste elements from other designs, resize different aspects, and merge elements together into one new design. Each program is a bit different in how the Edit functions are managed. Once you have learned to use yours, creating new monograms from other monogram parts is creative and fun. Experiment with different arrangements and colors.
