Monogram Styles Used:

Monogram: E

To create a single initial monogram for a tote bag we started with the letter E from Chainstitch Monogram Set 2, then looked for something to surround and formalize it, while still maintaining a simple hand-sewn look.

From Monogram Flourishes 2 we chose the design called Year:1932 - which has a left and a right version so that the two halves can be appropriately placed. There is a manual seed stitch element, and the satin stitch borders have "hooks" which compliment the curves in the letter. A subtle light color scheme completes the look.

The overall size is 4 5/8"(119mm) tall by 3 1/2"(89mm) wide.

How we made these monograms

Embroidery software programs make it easy to delete elements, copy and paste elements from other designs, resize different aspects, and merge elements together into one new design. Each program is a bit different in how the Edit functions are managed. Once you have learned to use yours, creating new monograms from other monogram parts is creative and fun. Experiment with different arrangements and colors.
