Monogram: P

Sometimes it's interesting just to play around with your embroidery software program.

We started with a letter from Avant Garde 5 XL Monogram Set - a simple modern style, the letters accented with two short chevrons and one longer one with ball shapes at one end. We eliminated the letter and the two sets of smaller chevrons, leaving just the two longer elements. Next, we isolated each of these elements as individual designs so we could play with their spacing and position relative to each other. We wanted to leave a reasonable sized open area in which to introduce a single letter of the alphabet taken from another style.We saved the two angled elements back together as one design, then rotated the pair so that the longest part of each is horizontal. We now had a frame.

Although these elements as part of the original letter embellishments seem to be at a 45 degree angle, once isolated it's clear that the angle is bit more open (48 degrees?) and the result is that the frame has a tilt to the right, which gives it a slight sense of motion. In order to complete the monogram - last initial P - we searched for letters with a similar slant, and found a nice compatible match with the Arabesque Monogram Set 4. A small tweak of the sizes of frame and letter completed the monogram.

The overall size is 4 3/8" (110mm) tall by 2 7/8" (72mm) wide.

How we made these monograms

Embroidery software programs make it easy to delete elements, copy and paste elements from other designs, resize different aspects, and merge elements together into one new design. Each program is a bit different in how the Edit functions are managed. Once you have learned to use yours, creating new monograms from other monogram parts is creative and fun. Experiment with different arrangements and colors.
