Monogram: M

Just playing with things in your embroidery software program is always a useful way to learn things, and rarely a waste of time.

This initial M is the result of pure fiddling around. We likes the shape of the letter J from Gothic Monogram Set 18 - which also has a small triangle accent above. Making a copy as a mirror image produced a shape somewhat like a crest, or the letter U.

Moving the two sides slightly apart produced a space into which something else could be inserted. The letter I from this style has a similar triangle accent, so we added it - with a color change.

Just to see what it would look like, we rotated the whole design 180 degrees - and now we have the initial M - newly created - and interesting to look at as a single initial monogram.

The overall size is 3 1/2" (89mm) tall by 2 1/2" (63mm) wide.

How we made these monograms

Embroidery software programs make it easy to delete elements, copy and paste elements from other designs, resize different aspects, and merge elements together into one new design. Each program is a bit different in how the Edit functions are managed. Once you have learned to use yours, creating new monograms from other monogram parts is creative and fun. Experiment with different arrangements and colors.
