Synopsis: Alexandra "Alex" Barnes (Debra Winger) is a bright young federal investigator with the Department of Justice who becomes intrigued - then obsessed - when she stumbles upon an unusual pattern of deaths of wealthy, reclusive middle-aged men, all seemingly from natural causes. Their surviving young window - Catherine Peterson (Theresa Russell) connects them. Alex, with the grudging permission of her supervisor, decides to go undercover to track her down. The trail goes through Seattle, then to Hawaii, where Catherine, now calling herself Rennie, is moving quickly to her next victim, an international hotel tycoon named Paul Nuytten (Sami Frey). The two meet - and attempt to out-maneuver eachother.
Scene: Suspecting her new friend Jessica (Alex Barnes's assumed name), Rennie searches her room while she is out.
Monogram: In the dresser drawer, some monogrammed handkerchiefs with the initials JB - for Jessica Barnes.
