You Were Never Lovlier - 1942

Movie: You Were Never Lovlier - 1942

Director: William A. Seiter

Synopsis: The Acunas family have a tradition - the daughters must marry in age order, oldest first. When the oldest sister gets married, the two youngest daughters start to pressure Maria (Rita Hayworth), the next in line, because they already have beaus picked out. Eduardo Acuna (Adolphe Menjou), a rich Argentinian entrepreneur, knows that his daughter Maria hasn't found a man she likes, so he invents a "mystery man" for her, sending her flowers with anonymous romantic notes. He intends to find someone to fill the position later, and, at first, isn't thrilled when Robert Davis (Fred Astaire), an American dancer, stumbles into the picture.

Scene: Maria receives the first orchid from her mystery suitor. Her father professes to know nothing about it.

Monogram: Maria wears a dark tunic dress over a white blouse with buttoned collar. The dress has her monogram - MA, with the points of the M and the A overlapping, and the crossbar of the A extended outward on either side. She apparently likes this outfit because she wears it again near the end of the movie when the flowers - four orchids this time - are from Robert.
