Synopsis: Three estranged siblings - former child prodigies, reunite when their father Royal Tenenbaum (Gene Hackman) tells them he is terminally ill. Chas (Ben Stiller) (finance genius) , Margot (Gweneth Paltrow) (playwright), and Richie (Luke Wilson) (professional tennis player) are all shadows of their genius selves after decades of betrayal and disaster. All of them, and their mother Etheline (Angelica Houston) consider their failures to be Royal's fault. They reunite at the family brownstone in New York City. Roman, who claims he has stomach cancer, thinks they can all resolve past issues - and that he can keep Etheline from marrying Henry (Danny Glover). He has been living in a hotel for 22 years, but is kicked out for lack of cash, which starts the plot rolling.
