She finds what seems to be the perfect house - Gull Cottage - but the landlord tries to dissuade her, saying that all the previous tenants had quickly moved out. Undaunted, she moves in, and quickly discovers the reason - the house is haunted by the ghost of it's original owner Captain Daniel Gregg (Rex Harrison). When Mrs. Muir's financial situation worsens, the Captain dictates his life story to her so she can publish it as a book.
