Impact - 1949

Movie: Impact - 1949

Director: Arthur Lubin

Synopsis: Millionaire San Francisco industrialist Walter Williams (Brian Donlevy) has a young wife, Irene (Helen Walker). She and her young lover Jim Torrence (Tony Barrett) are plotting to kill him. He is introduced to Walter as her cousin, and when Irene bows out of a planned trip to Lake Tahoe, feigning illness, Walter agrees to give Jim a ride to Denver.

Scene: Jim tampers with the car tire, and when they pull over along a mountain road, Jim clubs Walter with a tire iron and leaves him for dead. Shortly there after he dies in a collision, the body burned beyond recognition. (Walter eventually turns up in Idaho, where he finds a new love interest - Marsha Peters (Ella Raines) who helps him. Lots more details but we don't want to completely give away the plot)

Monogram: When the men roll up their sleeves to fix the tire, the audience sees that they both have the same embroidered monogram with initials inside a heart that were given to them by Irene - but with important differences. One is JT, the other is WW.
