All The King's Men - 1949

Movie: All The King's Men - 1949

Director: Robert Rossen

Synopsis: Willie Stark (Broderick Crawford) is a rural politician bent on reforming the system - and is eventually corrupted by the same system after winning election as Governor. Based on a Pultizer Prize winning novel, this film adaptation won Oscars for Best Picture as well as Best Actor (Crawdord) and Best Acctress (Mercedes McCambridge).

Scene: College age son Tom (John Derek) crashes his car while drunk on Willie Stark Highway. He is unhurt, but his female passenger is sent to the hospital in serious condition. Her father, Richard Hale (appearing under his own name) goes to the Governor's mansion to confront Stark after the Police Report doesn't mention alchohol or Tom Stark's responsibility. He finds that Willie himself has had a few too many.

Monogram: The Governor's lounging robe bears the flamboyant initials WS.
