Synopsis: Dave the Dude (Glenn Ford) is a small-time New York gangster. He buys applies - to bring him luck - from street vendor Apple Annie (Bette Davis). Dave learns that Annie has a daughter who was sent away to boarding school in Europe and is now grown up and coming to NY - with her fiancée and his parents. Louise (Ann-Margaret) believes that her mother to be wealthy socialite Mrs. E. Worthington Manville. With the help of Dave's Queenie Martin (Hope Lange), the gang decide to help create the fantasy.
Scene: When Dave keeps postponing a meeting with an important gangster, his right-hand man Joy Boy (Peter Falk) loses patience. And just when the plot is about to unfold they get a knock on the door and a police raid.
Monogram: Dave in a silk dressing gown - with initials DC monogrammed on the pocket.
