Synopsis: Johnny Jones (Joel McCrea) a reporter on a low rung of the ladder at the New York Globe, is promoted to the job of Foreign Correspondent by the Editor((Harry Davenport) who doesn't think the he is getting the whole story on the growing power of Adolf Hitler and Nazi Germany from his overseas reporters. Arriving in London with a new name - Huntley Haverstock - the new reporter is invited to a party thrown by Steven Fisher (Herbert Marshall), leader of the Universal Peace Party, in honor of a diplomat named Van Meer (Albert Bassermann). He meets Fisher's daughter Carol (Laraine Day). Before arriving at the party he happens to see Van Meer leaving their mutual hotel, and rides along with him to get an interview. Once at the party, he learns that Van Meer has mysteriously disappeared, is supposed to turn up at a meeting in Amsterdam the next day, and is then assassinated. As is typical with Hitchcock, the story gets much more complicated - before ending with a plane crash at sea, a miraculous escape, and Huntley Haverstock getting the full story, the girl, and a permanent post to Europe for the rest of the war.
Scene: Preparing to cross the Atlantic on a ship, the newly-minted Huntley Haverstock welcomes friends and family aboard. The newspaper thinks the new name is more appropriate for a newspaperman in Britain.
Monogram: A steamer trunk, with the initials J.J. being superseded by the initials H.H.
