Synopsis: Millicent "Millie" Wetherby (Joan Crawford) is a lonely woman, attending piano concerts by herself. After one of these, and a typical solitary dinner in a nearby diner, a handsome stranger asks if he can sit in her booth (no other seats being available). She resists, but eventually agrees. Burt Hanson (Cliff Robertson) charms her and eventually convinces her to marry him although she knows little about him. Burt's father (Lorne Greene) and his ex-wife Virginia (Vera Miles) abruptly enter the story shortly thereafter. Burt exhibits signs of mental illness when confronted with his past, and Millie decides to have him committed to a hospital where he gradually improves, and they look forward to a brighter future.
Scene: Top: After Burt convinces Millie to let him join her, he notices her purse, and tries to guess her name. Bottom: Millie convinces Burt that he should visit his father, goes to the hotel where Mr. Hanson is staying to meet him. Once there she finds him in the company of the ex-wife Virginia, and tries to stop Burt from seeing them together once she realizes the truth about their relationship.
Monogram: Top: The purse has metal initials (MW) that embellish it. Burt hold the purse upside down and points out that the initials are still MW. Bottom: Millie wears a white sun dress with an embroidered monogram on a scalloped patch at the collar. Since it's white-on-white it's difficult to make out the details, but given the conventions of the day it's likely that it has initials M and H, not M and W.
