Synopsis: The film adaptation of the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical. New York matchmaker Dolly Levi (Barbra Streisand) agrees to assists the "well-known unmarried half-a-millionaire" Horace Vandergelder (Walter Mathau) find a mate. She travels to Yonkers where she begins to consider marrying him herself. She meets his neice Ermengarde (Joyce Ames) and her beau Ambrose Kemper (Tommy Tune), whose plan to marry Ermengarde isn't welcomed by Vandergelder, and also tells Vandergelder's two clerks Cornelius Hackl (Michael Crawford) and Barnaby Tucker (Danny Lockin) that she knows two young ladies, and that they should accompany her to New York. They all end up at the fancy Harmonia Gardens restaurant, which is hosting a polka competition.

Scene: The Harmonia Gardens is a place where the well-to-do congregate, where Dolly is well known to the staff ("Hello Dolly"), and where dancing waiters are a normal part of dinner.

Monogram: The waiters on the grand staircase, with silver trays, and several of the restaurants tablecloths, monogrammed with the initial H in red surrounded by vines.
