Monogram: M

This one is really just the result of messing around with our software.

For this child's monogram, we flipped over some of the letters in our Arabesque Monogram Set 7 so that they were upside down. Struck by the transformation of the letter W (now an M when upside down) the loops previously at the bottom now resembled cartoonish ears - and the pointed center section suggested a nose.

Looking for a mouth, we found that one of the brackets that are part of the letters in Cutwork Monogram Set 3 could be rotated sideways, and do the trick nicely.

Added bonus - for those with more ambition: The bracket is digitized for cutwork, which is basically a reverse applique. So it's possible to extend this fun monogram a bit more by cutting away fabric for open gaps in the "teeth", or use a fabric applique instead.

The overall size is 3 3/4" (98mm) tall by 2 3/4" (70mm) wide.

How we made these monograms

Embroidery software programs make it easy to delete elements, copy and paste elements from other designs, resize different aspects, and merge elements together into one new design. Each program is a bit different in how the Edit functions are managed. Once you have learned to use yours, creating new monograms from other monogram parts is creative and fun. Experiment with different arrangements and colors.
