Monogram: H
This project is a single-initial monogram for a small wedding pillow.
The starting point is the initial H - chosen from the Arabesque Monogram Set 14. The letter has a graceful vertical orientation with a curvy nature.
To give it some formality, and a little harder geometric balance, we added one of the designs from Monogram Flourishes 2 - a satin stitch rectangle with smaller embellishments on the corners called Year: 1937.
Combining these two designs established the basic monogram, but for a little extra visual interest we added three dots - from Art Deco Monogram Set 6 - inside the smaller rectangles. Also, from Monogram Flourishes 3 we added an interesting curvy bracket - Year: 1899. One copy was placed on the left of the H, with a second copy, rotated so that the orientation is reversed, on the right. These designs don't represent first and last initials, but do have a vaguely "letterish" quality.
To keep the whole thing subdued the bulk of the monogram is sewn in white-on-white, with the H in a subtle pale shade of green.
The overall size is 4 3/4" (120mm) tall by 6 5/8" (169mm) wide.
How we made these monograms
Embroidery software programs make it easy to delete elements, copy and paste elements from other designs, resize different aspects, and merge elements together into one new design. Each program is a bit different in how the Edit functions are managed. Once you have learned to use yours, creating new monograms from other monogram parts is creative and fun. Experiment with different arrangements and colors.
