Monogram: KR

Not everyone has three initials. For a "no middle name" monogram (KR) to go on towels, we wanted something that would be modern-ish, emblematic, and memorable - with initials flanked by some sort of frame.

Beginning with the frame concept, two mirrored columns seemed to offer some possibilities. The letter I from the Art Deco Monogram Set 9 is straight, has a "foot" that could act as a base and a capital, with an interesting manual fill to add some texture. Stacking one letter I, flipped over in our software, above the other created one column. Mirroring and flipping that combination made another column. We placed the columns so that the manual seed stitch was facing into the center.

Next, the initials. Rustic Monogram Set 3 is a style with gentle curves for some contrast - but in its original form it has flanking columns of its own. We didn't want those - just the letters - so the columns were deleted. The letters were manipulated slightly to make the K a little smaller and the R (last name initial) a little bigger.

The overall size is 6 1/8" (157mm) tall by 4 7/8" (123mm) wide.

How we made these monograms

Embroidery software programs make it easy to delete elements, copy and paste elements from other designs, resize different aspects, and merge elements together into one new design. Each program is a bit different in how the Edit functions are managed. Once you have learned to use yours, creating new monograms from other monogram parts is creative and fun. Experiment with different arrangements and colors.
