Monogram: A

Love the cutwork details in the letters from Cutwork Monogram Set 3, but would prefer a letter that was slimmer for a particular project?

We began by opening the letter A from Cutwork Monogram Set 3 - although any letter from this style would do.

The sewing sequence creates the Cutwork border first: a running stitch (Color 1), followed by a low-density zig-zag outline (Color 2), followed by satin stitch details (Color 3).

The letter is Color 4. We isolated this color, then deleted it, leaving just the two halves of the cutwork border. We then merged the middle letter A from Circle Monogram Set 1 - still a letter that conforms to a circle motif, but with much thinner elements. The overall size is 3 1/2" (89mm).

How we made these monograms

Embroidery software programs make it easy to delete elements, copy and paste elements from other designs, resize different aspects, and merge elements together into one new design. Each program is a bit different in how the Edit functions are managed. Once you have learned to use yours, creating new monograms from other monogram parts is creative and fun. Experiment with different arrangements and colors.
